Habitat HMD’s model is creating pathways to affordable housing that make a generational impact. Habitat HMD evaluates families for partnership based on their household income, housing needs, and fit with our housing models. Our partner families are working, lower-income households living in core housing need (i.e. unaffordable, overcrowded, or inadequate places), who would not typically qualify for a traditional mortgage. Habitat’s housing program is best suited for families with children, however we serve families of all sizes and types. By focusing our investment on young children, we can help break the cycle of poverty for future generations. Partnered families are asked to contribute 500 hours of volunteer hours instead of a down payment, and mortgage payments are set at no more than 30% of the family’s gross income. Through this model, families build strength, stability, and independence through affordable housing. Candidate Experience & QualificationsHabitat HMD is currently recruiting two (2) new Board members to help us champion our Strategic Plan. The ideal Board candidate is an innovative, creative and strategic thinker, with a commitment to governance leadership and passion for affordable housing. Prior non-profit board experience is preferred, but not necessary. To complement the existing Board of Directors’ background, we are particularly interested in hearing from community leaders who possess any of the following areas of expertise: ● Human resources management ● Land acquisition and real estate development ● Mortgage lending and/or real estate law ● Fundraising, particularly multi-year capital campaigns
