Description and Service Details
Description (Service) Partial funding to cover the costs of prescription drugs listed in the Ontario Drug Benefit Formulary * includes nutrition products and diabetic testing agents * prescriptions for listed drugs must be ordered by a doctor or dentist licensed to practice in Ontario and must be filled by a pharmacy in Ontario

Ontario Drug Benefits Program (ODB) - Helps eligible people pay for their prescription medications

Special Drugs Program - Funding to cover the costs of prescription drugs and certain outpatient drugs required to treat specific conditions * doctors make the application for this program

New Drug Funding Program for Cancer Care - Funding for cancer drugs * administered by Cancer Care Ontario

Inherited Metabolic Diseases Program - Drugs which treat certain metabolic conditions are fully covered, as well as supplements and specialty foods

Respiratory Syncytial Virus Prophylaxis for High-Risk Infants Program - Funds a drug for Ontario infants who are at high risk for hospitalization and complications from a Respiratory Syncytial Virus infection

Visudyne (Verteporfin) Program - Full funding for a drug to slow macular degeneration due to age

Exceptional Access Program - Handles funding requests for drugs that are not listed in the Formulary * requests reviewed on a case-by-case basis

Eligibility Ontario residents who are 65 years and older, or receiving social assistance, or residing in long term care homes or homes for special care, or receiving professional home care services * registrants in the Trillium Drug Program
Application Application forms are available at pharmacies * residents of long-term care homes, and home care and social assistance recipients, are issued cards by the facility or their case manager
Starting Sep 2016 - Beneficiaries of the ODSP, ACSD, TCA, and OW programs can use their Ontario Health cards to get their prescription medication
Starting Dec 2016 - Beneficiaries of the ODSP, ACSD, TCA, and OW programs must use their Ontario Health cards to get their prescription medication and will not receive paper drug cards
