About Halton Information Providers

Halton Information Providers (HIP) is a coalition of the four Halton libraries' community information services. 

  • Information Oakville (lead partner), a service of the Oakville Public Library
  • Information Burlington, a service of the Burlington Public Library
  • Information Halton Hills, a service of the Halton Hills Public Library
  • Information Milton, a service of the Milton Public Library

HIP was formed in the 1980's to eliminate duplication of effort in the collection of Halton community services information and to work in partnership with others to collect and maintain information that could then be made available to all.

The primary purpose of each centre is to provide free and confidential information to connect people to the social and community services available in Halton. HIP brings people and services together through our individual service centres, database and publications.

Together, the partners jointly maintain the public online Halton Community Services Database (HCSD).  The purpose of the HCSD is to support the needs of the residents of Halton by maintaining consistent and credible standards of community and human service information.

As members of InformOntario (the provincial association of community information centres), InformCanada (the national federation of information and referral providers) and of the Alliance of Information and Referral Systems (AIRS) our international partner, we subscribe to the policies, principles and standards of those organizations.

Yes. Our trained and certified staff are here to help you. Contact one of our Community Information Centres in your community.

The HCSD is a database of human services available to residents of Halton Region. Human services cover a broad range of programs and services, from access to basic necessities of life to enhancement of personal and social growth. These services may be provided by community, social service, health, government or commercial organizations.

Examples of the types of organizations and services included:

  • Arts and cultural organizations
  • Children and youth services, childcare providers
  • Community and Social Service organizations
  • Crisis services, emergency housing
  • Educational facilities, Oakville schools, training
  • Employment services

  • Hobby and interest groups

For a full description of included services please see our Terms of Use. The Database is produced by a non-profit coalition of Community Information Centres called the Halton Information Providers. There is no fee for using the Database nor being listed in the Database. The Halton Community Services Database is also the source of data for Halton's 2-1-1 telephone service, Ontario Association of Community Care Access Centres (theHealthline.ca), and the Halton Child Care Directory and Information Line.

All of the information in our database is gathered directly from the respective organizations. We contact all of these organizations on an annual basis to verify the accuracy of the information. If we are unable to verify the information the record is removed. These procedures are in accordance with the AIRS Standards.

Please note that the Halton Community Services Database is a collection of information about human services available to residents of Halton Region. Included are services that provide basic subsistance and survival (food, clothing, shelter) and related support services (emergency assistance, financial assistance, physical and mental health assistance).

To suggest a new record please complete the record suggestion form here. Your suggestion will be reviewed and we will contact you with our decision. Halton Information Providers reserves the right to exclude records from the database.
