| Description | MCRC is a family resource centre offering a variety of programs and services to parents and caregivers of children from newborn to 6 years. Family Resource Programs have a fee and require registration. Art Smart - Ages 2-4 years(younger siblings not yet crawling)- Inspired by the masters, children with their parents will work with various media to create work inspired by the great masters as; Van Gogh, Monet, Cezanne, Picasso, Pollok, as well as Canadian and local artists such as the Group of Seven. This class is led by our "Atelierista" Artist in the Centre. Her background is in Fine Arts and Illustration. Baby and Milestones- 2 to 6 months - Young babies grow and develop at a rapid rate and at this stage begin to explore their world with all of their senses. Follow these exciting changes and learn simple ways that you can promote healthy development. This program will look at different areas of development and each week participants will make an activity and complete a journal page that will be part of a bound record of this special time. It will also offer you time to network with other parents of babies the same age. Busy Fingers, Busy Feet- 9 to 18 months Join us for 1 ½ hours of fun and exploration through sensory and motor activities for children and their parents/caregivers. Cooking up a Story- 2-3 years (younger siblings not yet crawling) Join us for weekly theme stories complemented by preparing a recipe. We will summarize each book, followed by a related activity, experiment or art project. Children will love hearing stories and creating recipes that correspond to the weekly story theme. The best of both worlds-reading, exploring with food and eating! Creative Child Series- Exciting programs designed for your 3 to 6 year old (has not entered grade one) child to spark his or her imagination and creativity with different media. Cognitive ideas are explored in areas such as: science, environment, creative materials, and puppets. Discover Together-2 to 6 years (younger sibling may attend) We know that learning happens through play. Join us for 12 weeks of exciting activities such as; creative, science, math and early literacy involving stories, songs and active movement. This small structured group experience encourages quality adult and child interaction in an age-appropriate, child-focused environment that enhances and promotes healthy child development. Infant Massage-birth to pre-crawling Infants and their caretakers learn the art of forming secure relationships through attuned communication and loving massage, which leads to lifelong developmental benefits for the body, mind and spirit of the family. Join our one hour, 3 week session, hands-on class, designed for you with your baby. The Infant Massage class is led by a Registered Massage Therapist. Family Math Time - This program invites parents and their children ages 3-5 years with younger siblings not yet crawling to come together once a week for 6 weeks to work, play and develop positive attitudes toward mathematics. Families will enjoy games and activities that reinforce skills and develop math concepts such as; number sense, measurement, geometry, patterning and data management. Family Math will provide parents with the confidence they need to support their children and foster an understanding and enjoyment for mathematics. Kids Konnection- Doctor's appointment? Errands to run, time for you, pre-register for your child 2-6 yrs. to have 2 ½ hours of fun and games with our qualified staff. French For Young Children-registered 2 ½ to 5 years A program for families who are curious and interested in learning French as a second language. Children with their parents will enjoy this blend of educational free play and guided learning while learning French basics. Les enfants aimerons cet agencement de jeu libre educational et cet apprentissage dirigé du français élémentaire. De 2.5 à 5 ans. Les enfants de même parents sont bienvenus. (younger siblings not yet crawling may join) This class is led by a Francophone RECE Teacher. Messing Around- 18-24 months- Introduce your toddler to a preschool-type experience with fun and engaging activities. Pick up a paint brush and dip into a rainbow of colours and a world of shapes. Discover different textures while gluing unique collages and stimulate their senses through exciting experiences. Mini Monets-registered 2 ½ to 4 years on their own! During our time in the Art Studio, students will explore three of the main areas of artistic exploration - drawing, painting and sculpture. Each Mini Monet will leave the seven week program with a palette, a paintbrush and a better understanding of line, colour, shape, form and proportion.“ This class is led by Sharon, our “Atelierista” (Artist in the Centre). Her background is in Fine Arts and Illustration. Mom and Baby Fitness-infants 8 weeks to precrawling Are you looking to get fit but aren't quite ready to leave your baby yet? This 1 hour class is a combination workout including cardiovascular, toning and stretching. It is done with your baby (not yet crawling) or without, options are provided. This program is for all levels and does not require coordination! This program is held at Goodlife Fitness Club and is taught by a Certified Personal Trainer with a specialization in pre and post natal exercise. Shimmy and Shake- Fun filled sessions of music and energetic movement for preschoolers 3 to 5 years of age on their own. Children learn songs, games and activities to encourage creative movement. Stroller Fit- Infants 8 weeks and up The class is 1 hour in length and includes 3 stops along the way that are action packed with exercises to help get you fit! This class is taught by a Certified Personal Trainer with a specialization in pre and post natal exercise. (September and May only) Rock-A-Bye Babies- 6-12 months - This program will help develop your child's listening skills and sense of flow and beat through repetition. Our Program introduces playful musical activities; bouncing and rocking songs, wiggle and peek-a-boo games, singing, dancing and moving. It stimulates musical interaction between child and parent/caregiver bond. Yogi ABC-registered 3 to 5 years on their own! An introduction to yoga, adapted for pre-school children . Children will learn to focus and relax as well as becoming familiar with new vocabulary and concepts by integrating oral storytelling and yoga. It develops body awareness, language, good listening skills and inspires their imagination. They will learn through playing, singing, moving and imitating. | ||
