Description (Service) Clinics are still being organized, information will be added to this record as it becomes available. 
 
Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) free tax clinics will be held in March and April 2017 (for 2016 tax year) 
* for those with simple tax situations and modest income (for details see 'Eligibility' below)  
* for what to bring, see 'Application' below  
* use contact information below only to ask about times/location or make appointments only (for questions about eligibility or other tax questions contact CRA 1-800-959-8281) 
* for questions about your return after clinics are over, see 'Important Notes' below 
 
2017 VOLUNTEER TAX CLINICS 
By appointment only: 
None yet announced. (Note: due to staff changes, Salvation Army Burlington does not plan to offer income tax clinics in 2017)  
 
Drop-in (leave tax information, pick up completed return at a later date): 
1. During designated hours only (volunteers must be present) at office of Karina Gould MP, Burlington Mall, 777 Guelph Line, Ste 209, 905-639-5757.  
Program runs Feb 28 to Apr 13: Tuesdays 1 pm-4 pm, Wednesdays 10 am-2 pm, Thursdays 10 am-2 pm 
 
2. St Christopher's Anglican Church, Open Doors Program, 662 Guelph Line, 905-634-1809. Dates and times to be announced, contact later in February for information.  
 
Drop-in (tax return done while you wait):  
1. Burlington Public Library, Central Branch, 2331 New St, Centennial Hall (on May 1 Holland Room) 
* Mondays Feb 27 to May 1 (including Easter Monday April 17), 9 am-3 pm  
* clinics are likely to be less busy after 10 am, when initial rush is over  
* note there is no indoor waiting space at Central Library prior to 9 am  
 
For those who are Deaf, deafened or hard of hearing only

Only CRA-certified software may be used, see list here 
* some may allow free use by those with lower net incomes, students and/or first-time tax filers  
* some may allow you to file for previous years 
 
Important notes 
* tax clinic gives you a 1-page summary while you are there, which you should keep (no 'full return' can be printed) 
* after CRA reviews your return, it will mail you a Notice of Assessment which you should keep 
* tax clinic can't access your information after return is filed, for all tax problems call Canada Revenue Agency 1-800-959-8281 
* If you lose your 1-page summary and need proof of income, you may be able to use Notice of Assessment (Note: for housing applications HATCH actually prefers the Notice of Assessment, and will also accept applications with NO documentation, if proof of income is provided later) 
* If your lose your Notice of Assessment, you can get a replacement from Canada Revenue Agency 1-800-959-8281 (takes about 2 weeks)

Eligibility For people with modest income and simple tax situation only, low income guidelines may change each year  
* in general, low income guidelines are about $30,000 for individuals, $40,000 for couples, and varying levels for families, based on number of children

Clinics do not complete returns for tax situations involving any of the following: 
* deceased persons 
* bankruptcy 
* self-employment 
* capital gains/losses 
* employment expenses 
* business or rental income and expenses
Application What to bring to tax clinics: 
* all tax forms, last year's Notice of Assessment from Canada Revenue Agency, rent/property tax receipts, and medical receipts if over 3% of income
