Firearm Permits

Programs that issue permits which provide written authorization for individuals to purchase rifles, automatic revolvers, shotguns and other portable firearms. Included are programs that license the use of firearms for hunting and other recreational purposes as well as for personal protection.

Dangerous Weapons Control

Programs that establish and enforce laws which control the conditions under which guns and other dangerous weapons may be purchased or otherwise obtained and used. These programs describe the types of weapons that may be possessed, define the individuals to whom dangerous weapons may be sold and the conditions under which they may purchase them, and provide guidelines for circumstances under which police and other authorities may confiscate weapons that have been obtained or used illegally.

Shooting

Programs, often offered by local gun and rifle clubs, that provide opportunities for people to learn, become competitive in and enjoy shooting. The programs are generally open to people of all ability levels; have divisions for juveniles as well as adults; provide practice and training sessions; offer firearm safety education; and may sponsor or make arrangements for members to participate in local competitions in which marksmen and women use pistols, rifles and/or shotguns to fire at stationary or moving targets from either a standing or prone position.
