Description (Service) | Provides settlement, integration, education and social services to newcomers
Violence and Abuse Prevention Programs Culturally sensitive and language specific services for women within the African Canadian community * services also for children and for men who are victims or perpetrators of abuse * violence prevention and public education * supportive group and individual counselling, referrals and peer support services * referral to appropriate community resources such as Legal Aid, Clinical counselling, affordable housing or shelters * accompaniment to appointments Newcomer Settlement Program Needs assessment * orientation and workshops on topics such as housing, employment, accessing government services * information and referral * interpretation and translation * assistance filling government forms * supportive counselling and escort to appointments Employment Support Workshops, group sessions, coaching, employment supportive counselling * career planning * assistance with resume and cover letter preparation, interview preparation, mock interviews and cold calling, networking opportunities * job search workshops * fax, internet access, photocopying, email Youth Development For visible minority youth ages 13 to 24 years * Young African Achievers Club * Youth Arts and Heritage Program * One on One Youth Mentoring Program * Youth Personal Safety and Crime Prevention Program * Youth Leadership Development Program * Refugee Youth Project * summer employment opportunities Seniors' Program Drop-in for seniors from the African Canadian community, services are provided in a culturally and language appropriate manner * information sessions, recreation, intergenerational programs, cook-outs, supportive counselling with referrals, socializing, assistance filling government forms, accompaniment and friendly visiting Women and Families Informal group, individual and family counselling * group sessions on parenting issues, workshops on women's health, information and referrals, field trips, referrals and accompaniment to community services Health and Wellness Workshops and group sessions on healthy eating and physical activity Mental Health and Wellness For members of the African/Black community who are experiencing or are at risk of experiencing mental health challenges * mental health awareness through public education, supportive counselling, referrals, practical support and advocacy Volunteer opportunities and community engagement activities |
