Description (Service) A grassroots organization promoting the writing, reading and publishing of poetry 
 
* members are entitled to participate in all the Oakville Poetry Society activities such as readings and workshops throughout Ontario 
* members receive the tri-annual publication, Verse Afire, with members' poetry, articles and poetry news 
* several annual poetry contests  
* membership decides focus of meetings which could be sharing or critiquing poems in progress, or working on poems for contests and honing a particular poetry skill, or preparing for a joint poetry event in cooperation with another group
