| Description | Oakville Town Council is comprised of a Mayor and twelve councillors and is the governing and legislative body for the municipality. Council approves policy and authorizes the raising of revenue and expending of funds for the provision of services. It receives all reports from Standing Committees and Advisory Committees.
The municipality is responsible for * the local official plan * zoning by-law * approval of sub-divisions, condominiums, land severances * fire preventation and protection * emergency planning * building permits and inspections * local roads, streets, sidewalks * storm sewers * tax collection * parks and recreation * local museums * Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts * libraries * local transit service * industrial, commercial, retail and tourism promotion *
People wishing to speak on an issue on the agenda must register with the Clerk's Office by noon on the Wednesday prior to the Monday night council meeting. Term of office December 1, 2006 to November 30, 2010.
