Description (Service) Temporary financial assistance and support in finding new employment
  • able-bodied claimants must be seeking employment to remain eligible
Basic benefit rate is 55% of average insured earnings up to a maximum insurable amount of $53,100 in 2019
  • maximum weekly benefit of $562 * duration of benefits based on insured weeks of work and regional unemployment rate
Family Supplement: for low income families who receive the Canada Child Benefit
  • amount based on annual net family income up to $25,921 and on the number of children in the family and their ages
  • entitlement will be added to EI payment
Special Benefits:

Maternity or parental benefits 
  • 15 weeks maternity benefits

Canada Recovery Benefit
  • EI claimants who exhaust 50 weeks of EI without enough insurable hours for a new EI claim can also apply for up to 4 weeks of the Canada Recovery Benefit between September 26, 2021 and October 23, 2021.

A number of EI temporary measures terminate for new claims after September 25, 2021. For example, a new EI claimant will not be covered by the temporary 120-hour qualifying rule. Rather, they will require 420 hours for Regular and Special EI benefits. The temporary minimum benefit is now extended for new claims until November 20, 2021 - but at $300 weekly (not the current $500)

Any claimant or former employer of a claimant who disagrees with a claim decision may appeal to the Social Security Tribunal of Canada (http://www1.canada.ca/en/sst)
