Enrolling volunteers for the 2024-25 SCHOOL YEAR in Oakville and Milton. At this time we are not offering a Burlington location for the 2024-25 school year, please check back closer to Fall 2024.

Enrollment for the 2024-25 school year ramps up in April/May 2024 and continues all through the end of the school year and into the summer months. Spots are usually (almost) full by the time school starts up in September.

High school students will mentor a child once a week after school in a one-to-one relationship, with an elementary school student. Involves assisting a child in grades 3-8 with their homework, playing educational games, and developing organizational skills. Homework Club takes place at a number of elementary schools across the Halton region. For the 2024-25 school year, Homework Club will only run in-person (we will no longer offer virtual spots).

Please only apply if you are interested in mentoring IN PERSON at a specific school (in Oakville or Milton).

By sharing ideas, resources, successes and by working together on school and community eco-projects, we can have a greater impact with a louder voice. After all, it is OUR collective future. 

Join us monthly as we learn about eco-issues and campaigns, plan educational / empowering eco-action activities for the community, discuss the latest eco-news, and connect with like-minded people. Everyone within the age range is welcome! 

We offer a mix of in-person events as well as the opportunity to volunteer online through our Social Media Subcommittee. 

Outdoor events occur on different days of the week and could be anything from hikes, litter clean-ups, plantings, invasive plant removals, event greening, and opportunities to connect and care for nature. Watch our Instagram for updates or contact us to join our Youth Network mailing list.

Drop in online meetings are once a month throughout the winter months IDecember to March), usually on a Monday @ 4:30 pm. Message us on Instagram or send an email for the meeting link.

Note: Our Social Media Subcommittee develops content for  BurlingtonGreen’s social platforms. Opportunities include graphic design, writing and research.

Packing and sorting fresh food into crates that will be distributed to our community partners and neighbours in need. Some heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs) required; participating in a temperature controlled Pack Room. Closed-toe shoes required.

Bronte Historical Society

This position requires you to be a member of our Board of Directors.

The Membership Director will fascilitate Membership Drives. You would contact members in January and throughout the year, to remind members that their membership is due and how they can pay. You may be asked to deposit membership cheques and keep in close contact with out Treasurer, so that there is consistent transfer of information. You will be asked to keep up to date records of Member's contact information and if/how they may be interested in helping our Society.

Church Treasurer – Volunteer job description

The church treasurer is responsible for the overall administration of the financial assets of the church, as directed by the Corporation.

The treasurer should have good financial management and organizational skills and a working knowledge of QuickBooks online software.

Monitors:  All church finances-receipts & disbursements, and works with the Priest-in-Charge and Wardens (the Corporation), and the parish administrator, as required

 Responsibilities:

·      Maintain/supervise the church financial records, ensuring that policies are followed and that overall financial assets are appropriately managed/administered

·      Ensure that clear policies, internal controls and proper accounting practices are maintained that govern the collection, handling, recording, receipting and use and reporting of funds within the church

·      Ensure that the policies, internal controls and proper accounting practices are followed to maintain the church’s charitable status

·      Ensure that clear, accurate and adequate records with supporting documents are kept of all church receipts and expenditures using QuickBooks online software

·      Ensure the timely payment of accounts payable 

·      To provide current financial reports regularly to the Corporation and at the Annual Vestry meeting

·      Prepare and file the annual financial documents to the Diocese of Niagara 

·      Prepare the annual budget in consultation with the Corporation 

·      File documents with Canada Revenue Agency (i.e., Charity report, GST/HST receivable etc.)

We are looking for a compassionate, positive, creative, and quick thinking individuals to help assist with programming. You will have opportunities to assist with our regular programming, as well as small group and 1:1 opportunities. OR do you have a special skill you'd like to share with us? We love trying new (and old!) things. Let us know! Experience with persons with disabilities is an asset, but not required.

Victim Assistance Volunteer Program
As required in Halton region (i.e Burlington, Hamilton, Oakville).
Provide practical assistance as needed. Identify longer-term needs by responding to victim's concerns. Supply the victim with appropriate options and referrals to services in the community. Volunteers are on call to the Burlington OPP 24 hours a day. Volunteers are specially trained to provide short term emotional and practical support to victims of tragic circumstances, fatalities, serious personal injury, crime and road trauma.
