CommentsFemale volunteers (ages 18+) needed for our Girls Linking Our Worlds (GLOW) program! Help girls from diverse backgrounds aged 11 to 14 build their leadership skills and feel confident in all aspects of their identity. The program consists of 10, 2-hour mentoring sessions, held over a 10 week period. This after-school program encompasses a group of 8-12 girls and 2-3 volunteer mentors (18+ years of age). Through mentoring relationships, discussions, creative and physical activities and games, the program strives to do the following: 
 
• Learn leadership skills and put them into practice 
• Explore issues such as peer pressure, stereotypes and healthy living 
• Promote positive self-image that embraces multiple aspects of identity 
• Learn different techniques for physical, mental and emotional well being 
• Develop empathic communication skills and respect for others 
• Explore different cultures and celebrate diversity 
• Meet and foster relationships with mentors from diverse backgrounds

DutiesAs a GLOW facilitator, your role is to lead activities for a group of young girls (aged 11-14) from diverse backgrounds, in a 10 week program focusing on active living, balanced eating, and being confident in all aspects of their identity. 
This position is suitable for female adults with a strong understanding of diversity & inclusion.

BenefitsOur volunteer mentors experience great satisfaction in interacting with girls as they develop positive relationships, self-assurance and resiliency through discussion, physical activity, and sharing nutritious snacks. Girls who attend GLOW report strong feelings of optimism and a sense of belonging. The ten week program takes place in schools and qualified Big Brothers Big Sisters staff and on-site school liaisons provide significant support.
ClientsOur programs take place in local elementary schools supporting girls aged 11-14. Girls are identified by teachers based on a set of established criteria, such as experiencing bullying, low self-esteem, lack of social skills and/or good role models.

TrainingTraining is provided ; Training on the job ; Training on-going ; All volunteers attend the 9 hour mandatory program training. Trainings are run three times a year in September, December and March. Big Brothers Big Sisters staff provide ongoing coaching and feedback to support the volunteer in their role.
TransportationCar required ; Volunteers must provide their own transportation to and from the program locations.
