Programs that provide information about the symptoms, preventive measures, screening/diagnostic procedures, causes and origins and/or methods of treatment or management for specific illnesses or disabling conditions; and/or which disseminate information about the latest research with regard to a particular illness or condition. Included are programs that maintain disease registries, i.e., databases that contain information about people who have been diagnosed or have risk factors associated with a specific type of disease and have been treated by or received preventive care interventions from a particular hospital or live within a particular geographic area. Registry information is used by public health authorities to identify and investigate unusual patterns of occurrence of the disease and can help communities plan for and deliver needed medical services. It can also be used to support care management for groups of patients with one or more chronic diseases, such as diabetes, coronary artery disease or asthma (or those with associated risk factors); and to connect people with programs doing medical research.
Programs that recognize the social or civic contributions that people have made to the life of the community, congratulate them on having reached significant personal milestones, or provide opportunities for people to show their respect for their country and community.
Programs that provide general information for the public about major disasters and large-scale emergencies occurring within Canada. Details may include the location and severity of the incident, the date and time of its occurrence, organizations that concerned friends and family can contact for information about the circumstances of possible victims and/or survivors, details regarding needed materials and supplies, and instructions for contributing to relief organizations.
