Description (Service)

The service offers a number of community initiatives for youth in Halton Region:

Children's Safety Village

  • a miniature town with buildings, paved roads, traffic signals, railroad crossing and sidewalks on a 1.5 acre site adjacent to Police Headquarters
  • free field trips to Kindergarten - Grade 3 classes in Halton Region
  • village is not open to the general public

PEACE (Police Ethnic And Cultural Education Youth Leadership Program) 

  • for high school students
  • students improve their cultural proficiency, communication and leadership skills

Youth In Policing Initiative (Y.I.P.I.)

  • available to 8-10 high school students annually
  • students participate in various sections of the police services, support community initiatives and learn valuable life and employment skills

Youth Advisory Council

  • advises HRPS on how policies, programs and outreach are impacting youth living in Halton Region
  • assists in shaping current programs and initiatives in a way to enhance and better support and serve youth in the community

T.R.A.C.K. (Teen Random Acts of Community Kindness)

  • a volunteer program for youth ages 13 – 18 who want to work with police to make a difference in their community
  • participants work alongside police officers and community partners to help promote sustainable life-skills, self-esteem, leadership, diversity, kindness, respect, trust and responsibility while completing fun and meaningful acts of kindness
  • registration is required and a waiver must be completed

ProAction Cops & Kids Programs

  • for youth aged 13-18
  • building positive relationships between police officers and youth in the Region of Halton
  • a variety of programs are run throughout the year providing youth with different opportunities to build leadership skills, form new relationships, gain self confidence and have fun
