| Description | Provides various volunteer based services and programs. All volunteers are supervised by Program coordinators and training is provided as necessary. * a car is an asset, otherwise, volunteers must be willing to take public transit Services include: Friendly visiting: * volunteers provide one-on-one support and friendship to frail or isolated seniors and/or to adults with physical limitations living in their own homes * visits may include in-home visits as well as accompaniment for errands, shopping and outings Special Steps: * walking or visiting program for seniors experiencing memory impairments * consists of weekly or bi/weekly, in-home,or short outings at a regularly scheduled time * visits are provided by specially trained volunteers Hospice visiting: * community-based service that utilizes trained volunteers to provide supportive care for people residing at home and are experiencing progressive life-threatening illnesses * a 10 week training program is mandatory prior to becoming a Hospice volunteer Bereavement Services Tele-Touch: * a telephone reassurance service available to seniors in Burlington, Milton and Oakville, 905-827-8800 ext 2106, 1-800-387-7127 * volunteers provide regular telephone calls for friendly conversation and security | ||
