Description and Service Details
Description (Service) The Tobacco Use Prevention Program  
* provides information, support and resources about tobacco use prevention 
* targets all Halton adults and youth, and works with other programs to address tobacco-related health issues among children 
The Halton Region’s Health Department tobacco programming is aimed at: 
* preventing young people from smoking  
* protecting people from second-hand smoke  
* helping people to quit smoking  
* denormalizing the tobacco industry  
* promoting tobacco-free sport and recreation  
* public health inspectors inspect and enforce the Smoke-Free Ontario Act (SFOA) in all premises that sell or distribute tobacco products 
* the SFOA makes it illegal for anyone to sell or supply tobacco products to individuals under the age of 19 years  
* public health inspectors also provide education and information to tobacco retailers and the community
