Description (Service) | Comprised of trained volunteers who provide emotional support and community referrals to victims of crime and tragedy throughout Halton Region. * volunteers are equipped to respond to crisis situations and are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week when requested by a police officer * a Victim Services Unit office is located in each of the Service's four divisions Key activities: When called upon, volunteers report to incident scenes, hospitals or where required and provide immediate crisis assistance to serious incidents involving a broad spectrum of physical/psychological trauma, including: * sudden death * homicide and suicide * assault, including sexual assault * domestic violence * elder abuse * robberies * motor vehicle collisions Victim Quick Response Program -- immediate assistance with emergency expenses related to the incident, including emergency home safety, accommodation, meals, transportation, dependent care costs, counselling, cell phones, vision care, crime scene cleanup, and funeral expenses * additional assistance for victims of human trafficking include replacement of government documents, storage locker, dental, tattoo removal, and treatment at a recovery facility * no direct reimbursement to victims * volunteers may also be required to provide emotional support, explain police and/or court procedures, and/or provide referrals to community agencies |
