Description and Service Details
Description (Service) Provides victims/witnesses of crime with information and assistance to support participation in the criminal court process. 
Services begin once police have laid charges and continue until the court case is over: 
* case specific information (such as court dates, bail and probation conditions) 
* crisis intervention 
* needs assessment 
* emotional support 
* liaison on client’s behalf with Crown and police including providing survivor input to the Crown 
* referrals to community agencies 
* advocacy 
* court preparation and orientation 
* assistance with Victim Impact Statements 
* debriefing and follow-up services, such as assistance to client's with Criminal Injuries Compensation Board applications 
Vulnerable Victims and Family Fund 
* financial help and court-based supports for victims of violent crime and families of homicide victims to attend court 
* assistance with travel to attend key court dates such as trials 
* language interpretation to observe criminal proceedings 
* real-time captioning or other equipment for victims with disabilities
Hours Mon-Fri 8:30 am-5 pm
Areas Served Halton Region - including courts in Burlington and Milton
Eligibility Where charges are laid by police in Halton Region, service is available to: 
* victims and witnesses of intimate partner abuse/domestic violence, child physical and sexual abuse, sexual assault (including historical sexual assault and human trafficking)  
* families of homicide victims, families of motor vehicle fatalities  
* elderly victims of abuse, victims with disabilities, victims of hate crime 
Vulnerable Victims and Family Fund - eligibility determined on case-by-case basis- speak with VWAP staff
Application Referral by police, Crown Attorney, community agency or self-referral
Languages English ; Interpretive Services - Are available upon request with advanced notice
