Description (Agency) A non-profit organization that supports and enhances the viability, integrity, and sustainability of agriculture in Ontario and Ontario's Greenbelt. It works with businesses, institutions and NGOs to make Ontario's farmers the first choice for consumers. The Fund's work has generated a 13-fold return on the investments, permanently changed the food value chain, and improved local food awareness and education across the province. As a not-for-profit, the Greenbelt Fund is supported by public and private sources. The Local Food Investment Fund grant program is funded by the Government of Ontario and administered independently by the Greenbelt Fund

Description and Service Details
Description (Service) Delivers support to farmers and local food leaders to ensure more locally grown food in Ontario is being served and distributed through public institutions, retail, and foodservice markets.  
The Fund focuses on four areas: 
Local Food Investment Fund 
* provides financial support to farmers and local food leaders to increase the amount of local food consumed in Ontario 
Local Food Education and Outreach 
* provides training tools and resource materials to assist public institutions in identifying, tracking, purchasing, and promoting local food 
* provides encouragement to a broad spectrum of food organizations, and ensures local food purchasing continues to expand in the public sector and beyond 
Local Food Policy 
* undertakes analysis of policies and regulations that affect the amount of local Ontario food consumed in the province 
* publishes a series of Green Papers, which address key barriers associated with large-scale local food sourcing 
Local Food Networks 
* connects farmers and local food leaders to help move more local Ontario food throughout the province 
* creates these links through projects including, the only province-wide online marketing service where wholesale buyers can source a diverse range and volume of Ontario products
