Description (Service) | The YMCA of Hamilton / Burlington / Brantford offers a variety of camps during the summer: Stepping Stones: (4-5 yrs) held at Tansley Woods Community Center and Ron Edwards Family YMCA * provides a nice introduction to camp * 1:8 ratio of staff:children Kidventure Camp: (6-13 yrs) held at Tansley Woods and Central Arena * a weekly indoor/outdoor, theme-based camp that encourages campers to explore their imagination * each week a guest speaker presents a special programme based on the theme of the week Sports Camp: (6-13 yrs) a weekly indoor/outdoor camp held at Tansley Woods Community Centre and Central Arena that introduces campers to a variety of sports The following camps are operated at Christie Lake Conservation Area (includes free busing from the Burlington area): Camp Chippewa: (6-13 yrs) a weekly camp with opportunity daily for swimming and outdoor games * children participate in canoeing, archery and crafts twice per week Eco-Explorers (discovery project wilderness): (8-11 yrs) a weekly camp where campers will learn about the environment through activities and wilderness games * activities include canoeing, swimming, archery and crafts Canoe & Kayak Skills: (8-13 yrs) a one-week camp that emphasizes canoe skills * also includes swimming, field games, archery and crafts Camp Fundamentals: (10-13 yrs) a weekly camp that lets campers give input into the program and are taught basic camping principles * campers have a sleep-out on Thursdays and prepare dinner over an open fire with assistance from their counsellor Leader-in-Training: (14 & 15 yrs) teaches teens more about themselves, their role in the community and how to work with children * Level 1 (two weeks) is prerequisite for Level 2 (two weeks) * Level 3 (four weeks) is also available for those who successfully completed both LIT 1 and 2 levels * levels allow teens to finish their 40 volunteer hour requirement for high school |
