|Description (Service)||This topic record provides information on holidays for employees covered by the Ontario Employment Standards Act and Retail Business Holidays Act.
Note: The following does not apply to many employees in sectors such as banks, interprovincial transportation, communications, and some natural resources, First Nations and federal government operations who are governed by federal legislation, rather than Ontario's Employment Standards Act * paid holidays for these employees are covered in Part III of the Canada Labour Code

Under the Ontario Employment Standards Act, most employees in Ontario who qualify are entitled to take public holidays off with public holiday pay, and those who work on these holidays are entitled to additional pay or a substitute holiday with public holiday pay
