DescriptionOnce a driver turns 80, their driver's licence needs to be renewed every two years

Drivers will get two things in the mail: a renewal form and a letter that will provide instructions on what they need to do to renew * this letter and form will arrive about 90 days before your licence expires

Drivers will need to call and book an appointment for their renewal session * at this session (whole session lasts approximately three hours), they will:
* take an eye test
* join others in a 90-minute interactive group education session about new traffic laws, how aging affects driving, tips for older drivers and road signs
* take a multiple-choice test about rules of the road and traffic signs (available in 17 different languages)
Note: beginning April 21, 2014, the Senior Driver Renewal Program will be shorter and simpler * will know longer require a written knowledge test, but there will be short in-class screening exercises * full process will take approximately 90 minutes

After completing the session and taking the required tests, the driver will need to visit a ServiceOntario centre to get a new driver’s licence card

NOTE: vision test, knowledge test and group education session can be completed as much as six months before renewal is due * some drivers may also be asked to take a road test to have their in-car skills assessed
