DescriptionFREE TAX PREPARATION CLINICS 2010 (all ages, low income residents only) offered by Canada Revenue Agency for those who need assistance to complete their returns, and are unable to pay for help (tax returns prepared by volunteers) * see Eligibility criteria below

Mondays Mar 8-Apr 26 9:00am-3:00pm * drop-in (no appointments taken), can also drop off and pick up completed return later 
 
2) Burlington Seniors Centre, 2285 New Street, 905-335-7888 ext. 5  
Fridays Mar 5-Apr 30 (not Good Friday, Apr 2), noon-3 pm * all ages welcome * must pre-book appointment in person at Seniors Centre 
 
3) Newcomers to Canada only: Halton Multicultural Council, 860 Harrington Court, Suite 161, 905-842-2486 ext 240 Tuesdays, Mar 2-Apr 27/10, 9 am-noon * by appointment only (call for appointment) * multilingual assistance

FILING BY PHONE * Canada Revenue Agency provides two options for filing by phone for those with simple tax situations: 
Telefile service allows taxpayers to file by entering information on touch-tone telephone * see link for details  
Telefile Service for Seniors * eligible seniors were sent an invitation to use this service at the end of Jan 2010 * allows seniors to file over the phone by answering a few yes/no questions * do not need to complete a return * see link for details  
 
People with disabilities and shut-ins: 
Canada Revenue Agency offices are wheelchair accessible * regular Telefile service (see below) allows taxpayers with basic tax situations to file income tax return by telephone * Canada Revenue Agency staff and tax clinic volunteers DO NOT go to homes to assist in tax filing, although private tax preparation companies may (see Yellow Pages and ads in local papers).

Eligibility(for clinics): Clinics do not complete returns for deceased persons, bankruptcy, capital gains/losses, employment expenses, or business or rental income and expenses * in general, income ceilings are $25,000 for individuals, $35,000 for couples, varying levels for families, based on number of children * income ceilings may be flexible for those with special deductions, or who are close to income ceiling; to confirm eligibility, call Canada Revenue Agency 1-800-959-8281 or ask at income tax clinic
