Description (Service) | Purpose is to enhance career education and help youth make informed career decisions. Major programs and services: apprenticesearch.com: Free, virtual interactive, on-line service that serves the entire Province of Ontario * provides information on apprenticeships * helps connect people looking for skilled trades employment * apprenticeship opportunities * employers offering apprenticeship training and jobs * free apprenticeship job matching Career Centre: * provides centralized current resources * stimulates exploration of occupations and future trends in the world of work * helps Halton students make effective transitions from school to the work place by integrating the resources of business, education, government, labour, community organizations. School to Career Programs: * Provides Halton students the opportunity for hands-on learning in a workplace environment * HIEC website gives links to the various programs available in Halton. Halton Apprenticeship Advisory Council (HAAC): Community group whose members meet to identify, communicate and resolve problems inherent in the skilled labour shortage. The Real Game Series: Career explorations program for Grade 7 students geared to bringing real life experiences into the classroom. Employer Registry: * Ontario's free online community connecting employers and tomorrow's workforce * across the province, businesses can use this system to connect with elementary and high school students via a range of learning opportunities coordinated by Educators and Passport to Prosperity Coordinators Women as Career Coaches: Annual spring event celebrating women's goals, pathways and accomplishments * involves a variety of women from different occupational pathways to encourage and help young women become better informed about the variety of options available to them in the world of work Men as Career Coaches: Intergenerational mentoring program that encourages community members to act as career coaches and discuss their goals, career pathways, and accomplishments with younger generations |
