| Description | A community resource providing support to anyone affected by a relative or friend's drinking. Al-Anon: * an anonymous fellowship of relatives and friends of alcoholics who meet anonymously to share their experience, strength and hope in order to solve their common problems * a separate fellowship from Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) * Al-Anon is based on the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions adapted from AA * nonprofessional, self-supporting, spiritually based, apolitical, welcomes all cultures, available almost everywhere Alateen: * a part of the Al-Anon Fellowship designed for the younger relatives and friends of alcoholics up to age 19 * follows the same Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions and principles as Al-Anon * members conduct their own meetings with the guidance of an Al-Anon member sponsor * focus on sharing experiences, hopes, strengths and encouragement, and learning effective ways to cope with their problems and challenges *There are currently no Alateen groups although Al-Anon reserves a portion of their meetings for children of alcoholics. Phone service provides support groups for relatives and friends of alcoholics in the Burlington and Hamilton area. Al-Anon meetings: Acton: Mon 1:30 pm, One Day At A Time AFG St.Joseph's Catholic Church, 64 Church St, use back door, basement meeting room Wed 8 pm, Acton AFG Trinity United Church, 70 Mill St E, use back door, basement meeting room Milton: Tue 8 pm, Hope for Today St. Paul's United Church, 123 Main St. E. There are no Alateen meetings in Milton or Halton Hills at present. | |||
| Eligibility | Ages: 12 year(s) and up Men, women and children whose lives have been affected by the compulsive drinking of a family member or friend. The Alateen program is available for youths 12-20 years of age. | |||
